Travel TV host and producer Darley Newman was honored as Partner of the Year by The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).
Darley, who has served as the U.S. Tourism Ambassador for Korea, has worked with Korea Tourism over the years to share cross cultural information and travel inspiration for American audiences. The NYC event was held by Grand Central Station at Cipriani as was part of a series of cultural events themed Discover Your Korea to celebrate the 140th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and the United States of America. Guests enjoyed Korean Temple food from Netflix’s “Chef’s Table” Venerable Jeong Kwan, K-pop performances from NBC’s American Song Contest winner, AleXa and Taekwondo performances by Kukkiwon Demonstration Team, also featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent show.
Darley took the stage to receive the Partner of the Year Award. Over the past few years, she’s helped viewers discover Korea’s arts, culture, food, music and history through her TV programs and livestreams.
She also held a fireside chat with writer and journalist Andrew Evans, sharing the impactful experiences she had in particular with the women of JeJu Island while filming in Korea. The CEO of Korea Tourism Organization, Shin, Sang Yong, ambassador Chung, Byung Hwa, consul general of the Republic of Korea in New York, and Ven Wongyeong of the Culture Corps of Korean Buddhism also shared information with audiences during the special evening event.
