A Guide to the Enchanting Country of Turkey!
When planning for their next trip, most people only look to the most popular destinations such as England, Italy or France. While these European countries have much to offer, there are other countries that are less popular, but still very much worth visiting. Turkey, a country that is both part of Europe and part of the Middle East, is such a destination. Original cuisine, natural beauty, and cultural sites to rival even that of Paris or Barcelona, Turkey has it all! Though I've been to many places, I will never forget my trip to Turkey and I hope that this review and proposed itinerary inspires future trips. The first part of this review will focus around the bustling and dazzling city of Istanbul. Stopping in Istanbul is a must; as there is so much to do and see. First, visit the famed Hagia Sophia and marvel at the beautiful traditional architecture. Once inside, take a moment to listen to your audio guide and learn more about the significance of the hallowed ground beneath you. The next stop in Istanbul is the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar! These two stops have much more to them than what meets the eye. The Grand Bazaar is believed to be one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world; covering 61 streets and houses nearly 4,000 shops. One can sample all sorts of Turkish delicacies ranging from Turkish Delight and Baklava to the latest spices and teas.Finding serenity in a bustling city is not hard, as the low hymns and prayers whispered in the Blue Mosque soothe tired and weary travelers. Built in 1609, the Blue Mosque is a favored attraction for tourists worldwide. The next stop in Istanbul is less bright, but no less exciting to experience. Follow signs for the Basilica Cisterns that lead you underneath the city. From the darkness of the Cisterns, we return to the sunshine in the grounds of Topkapi Palace. The Topkapi Palace Museum is located in the Eastern part of the Fatih District of Istanbul. The Palace used to serve as the main residence of the Ottoman Sultans and is decorated accordingly. Topkapi Palace became an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and is one of the top tourist destinations in Istanbul. The first part of our tour of Turkey ends here within the grounds and gardens of Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. Keep your eyes and ears out for the second part of the tour, coming soon!
