Not to miss sights in the capital city of Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat and Siem Reap.
If you’re traveling to the Kingdom of Cambodia in Southeast Asia, be prepared for an all-sensory, exotic adventure. While you have to see the sights in the capital city of Phnom Penh, here are other not to miss adventures to experience on your travels in Cambodia.
#1 Ride in a Tuk Tuk
Some call them dangerous (they aren’t the most sturdy of vehicles), some cough inducing (it can be dusty) and others a thrill (the wind in your hair as you travel like a local). I felt giddy every time I hopped aboard a Cambodian tuk-tuk, a two-wheeled carriage pulled by a motorcycle that’s a preferred transportation around the city. These tuk tuk taxis are inexpensive and a fun way to get around.
#2 Floating Villages
Taking a river cruise on the Mekong at sunset outside of Phnom Penh is truly special, but to see a different side of life in Cambodia, take a boat ride out to Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Cambodia and a UNESCO biosphere. Over a million people make their homes in the surrounding fragile ecosystem, surviving by fishing or farming nearby rice fields.
#3 Temples
Cambodia’s crown jewel Angkor Wat is stunning to see at sunrise, and you might feel like a modern day explorer as you hike this Temple City. Don’t leave out the other temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park, all in their own state of ruin and beauty.
#4 Markets
If you like to shop or bargain, you might like the markets in Siem Reap, where day or night you can shop for everything from silk scarves to seafood.
Wherever your travels take you in Cambodia, enjoy taking in the rich and varied culture that makes this Asian travel destination truly stand out.
