Festive photos from Christmas in Cannes, Nice and along the French Riviera. While the holidays are special when spent at home, there’s also something to be said for spending them aboard and Cote d’Azur, France is a particularly festive location. From holiday markets to snowy ski slopes to beachside dining, check out photos from Cannes, Nice, the French Alps and more from our December travels in Cote d’Azur. We traveled throughout Cote d’Azur filming for a new episode of our PBS series. Stay tuned for that and in the meantime, enjoy some photos from our adventures.
Mulled wine hot toddys by the ski slopes at Isola 2000, just an hour and a half from Nice. The village at Isola 2000 is host to several restaurants, a cheese shop, an olive and wine store and more, making for much to do on the slopes or off.
It’s pretty fun to spend one day in the snow and then dine beachside on another. At Plage l’Alba in Cannes. We dined at Restaurant L’Alba by the Mediterranean Sea in Cannes, before taking a ferry to St Marguerite Island… in December! A caesar salad with a twist in the sunshine at Restaurant L’Alba, where locals played live music and a DJ spanned tunes.
Time spent by the fire… a wood burning stove for socca, a type of chickpea flour pancake simply made with olive oil, at the Marche Forville indoor market in Cannes. Definitely get it with pepper. This dish is traditional in Nice, France.
Antibes is a pretty village famous for its Picasso Museum located between Cannes and Nice.
A Christmas tree near the Nice Christmas Market and Old Town.
A view from the Promenade des Anglais, where Nice locals take a swim in the Mediterranean. Brrr! If you have the chance, head for holiday cakes made from gelato at Oui, Jelato, one of the best places for gelato in Nice.
