Go wine tasting, beer tasting, and try some spirits at Old House Vineyards, a family-owned winery, distillery, and brewery in Culpeper, Virginia. A “triple threat” that’s a crowd pleaser!
The state of Virginia has an impressive wine industry with vineyards dotting the landscapes in Northern Virginia, and we’ve added an unusual family-owned winery to our schedule. Old House Vineyards in Culpeper, which has been transformed from an old alfalfa farm to a popular destination for award-winning wines and much more.
I met up with owner Pat Kearney, who explained that they are making ten different wines right now. These included Vidal Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, and Tanat. That sounded like a lot of wine and there were certainly vines as far as I could see.
Continuing through the vineyard, Pat and I tried some of his favorites in his WWII-themed tasting room. I recommend sipping on Clover Hill. Which is a dry-style Vidal, almost like a Pinot Gris. It’s crisp and very floral, pairing well with things like seafood pasta.
We also tried a vodka called Dude Spirit, which goes with the theme of the tasting room, in honor of World War II vets. Particularly unique because Culpeper, Virginia is close to Washington, DC, and home to a lot of Veterans. Also, there’s plenty on tap at Old House Vineyards for those looking to go Virginia wine tasting or to try local spirits!
