Home to the island’s highest peak, driving the two-lane paved road up to the over 10,000-foot high summit in Haleakala National Park is a journey in itself. A popular time to visit the summit is at sunrise or sunset, when the colors inside the crater are spectacular.

The drive from Kahului to the summit takes around an hour and a half and during that drive, you’ll pass through a variety of ecological zones as you wind by awesome scenic views. Keep a lookout for adventurous bikers flying downhill at top speed.
