Darley enjoying the food, drinks & atmosphere of Culpeper!

When thinking of the culinary spots of the world, one may not normally look to small towns like Culpeper Virginia, but travel show host and foodie, Darley Newman did just that! From sweet moonshine to French Cuisine, we found it all – and everything in between in Culpepper Virginia!  Starting on Davis Street, we ate and drank our way through this hidden gem of a town to bring you some of our favorite stops.

Downtown Culpeper is an amazing combination of architectural styles from well-preserved brick Italianate to Neoclassical, as well as a clash of flavors from the many restaurants and cafes. We first stopped by Moving Meadows Farm, complete with an in-house mill for freshly baked breads! The smell of heaven!

From there, our paths led to Thyme, where the Yarnall family showcases their pre-made and more casual delicacies in Thyme Market, while Thyme is reserved for more elegant fair. Renowned restaurant owner, Jocelyn Yarnall studied at Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris, and combines the decadent European style with what’s local and close to home.

After a lovely meal at Thyme Out, our tour pauses at Scoop for fresh and creamy old-fashioned ice-cream. What’s not to love about that?

Since a visit to Northern Virginia is not complete without going to a winery, we chose to check out Old House Vineyards. A former alfalfa farm turned popular local Vineyard with award-winning wines, spirits, and beer – yes, a triple threat! Step inside Pat Kearney and his family’s WWII-themed tasting room and honor local veterans with a toast!

Back in charming downtown Culpeper, there is yet another place to try local beer! This one, modeled after a pre-prohibition tavern brewery, complete with both the brewing and serving done in the same location. Sip on a German beer or grab a flight!

For our final stop at Culpeper, head over to Belmont Farm Distillery, where owner Chuck Miller takes pride in making Virginia Whiskey in copper pot sills. Be sure to check out the complete video of our adventure below, and keep up with Travels with Darley
