These locally recommended museums are global stand-outs you should visit on your travels to Missouri, Arkansas, and Belgium.

A museum where water coolers are instruments, where you can ride a Ferris wheel on a city roof, and one where you can finally understand what lurks in women’s purses? Check out some of the world’s strangest museums that you just might love.

#1 Maison de la Pataphonie in Dinant, Belgium

Belgium is known to be quirky and cool, so you may not be surprised that there’s a museum entirely devoted to sound. For lovers of music and creativity, you’ll definitely enjoy expanding your mind by making music with everyday objects. This wildly inventive museum was dreamed up by instrument maker Max Vandervorst and is great for adults and kids. It also gave me some interesting ideas, for instance, next time you need something to do in your office, grab your water cooler and get jammin.

Location: Centre Culturel Régional de Dinant, Rue Grande, 37, 5500 Dinant

#2 City Museum in St Louis, Missouri

Another cool museum for thinking outside the box is City Museum in St Louis. Enter a 600,000 square foot former shoe factory, where salvaged school buses, planes and yes even a ferris wheel on the roof delight young and old alike. This museum takes recycling to a whole new level, preserving unique, found objects that just may blow your mind.

Location: 750 N 16th St, St. Louis, MO 63103

#3 Esse Purse Museum in Little Rock, Arkansas

The only brick and mortar museum in the USA dedicated to the women’s purse, the Esse Purse Museum in Little Rock takes you through the twentieth century, telling a sort of women’s history through style and substance. Started by collector Anita Davis, this museum may give you a new appreciation for your mother, grandmother, and generations of women in the USA.

Location: 1510 S Main St, Little Rock, AR 72202
